Shooting the basketball using degrees and anglesShooting Angle:
In basketball the angle and release point of the ball is important to help in maximizing the opportunity of making the shot. The more arc a shot has the more likely the ball is to go throw the ring (Strickler, n.d). As the ball and arms are moving through the motions of a shot the arm should come to a 90 degree angle to allow for the ball to make the preferred arc (Strickler, n.d). Depending on your height the ball should be released at different angles, as well as depending were you are shooting the ball on the court the ball will also be released at different angles (Secrets of Shooting). Angle of Entry: The diameter of a basketball is 24.6cm and the diameter of the ring is 45cm which the ball can pass through (Townend, M.S, 1984, p.47). The Mathematical equation for the ball to pass through the ring is presented at a right angle. The ball will only pass through the ring provided that the angle of entry is greater than the diameter of the ball and therefore the mathematical equation being 45 sin 33*8' > 24.6 (Townend, M.S, 1984, p.47). |
